Our people are the lifeblood of our business and are undoubtedly our greatest asset. We take great care in training and retaining the exceptional people that are employed at M O'Brien Plant Hire, and are determined to provide them with an enjoyable productive workplace that does not compromise on safety. Our business has been able to grow over the years thanks to our continuous investment not only in our equipment, but in our people who represent and champion our core values as we strive to be the best provider of operated plant.

Training and development

M O'Brien plant hire places continuous investment in training of our workforce, offering continuous professional development on the ladder of opportunity that is the construction industry. From Apprentice plant operator through to senior management, we offer progression to our people and always ensure they have the knowledge and skills to carry out their job safely and in the most efficient way possible. Partnering with CPCS accredited training school Windmill Training based on site at our St Albans depot we provide well recognised and respected courses as well as a number of in house developed syllabus such as Eco Operator training, GPS machine control training, Mental health first aid and Behavioural safety courses. On top of this we offer the opportunity to carry out task specific training that allows clients to rehearse specific hazards with our operators in a safe and neutral environment prior to carrying out the works on site.

Workplace wellbeing

With people being our greatest asset, it is of high importance to make sure that we are taking good care of their health and wellbeing. We do this in a number of ways including through our comprehensive employee assistance program. Our occupational health specialists carry out "fit for work" medicals for all safety critical workers and carry out these medicals to the highest recognised standard of SEQOSH. As a long term supporter of mates in mind, our team have access to a wide range of resources from the charity to encourage good mental wellbeing. We have a number of trained mental health first aiders across our offices, yards and sites to help support staff and customers who may need somebody to talk to.

Safety

Right at the top of our values, is the goal of zero harm. We must look out for our colleagues and utilise a safety first approach to all of our tasks for our own and others safety. We are committed to providing a safe work environment for our staff, our customers and the general public and we provide the training and support in order to achieve this. We have developed a "Taking Safety forward Together" workshop that is a behavioural based safety toolbox talk highlighting the importance of our "Think Safe" approach. Above all else, we want everyone to go home safe and well each and every day. The number one golden rule of this, Speak up and STOP any act that you feel is unsafe.
